From the Candidate: William Rice

For the 2011 campaign, Simsbury Patch asked candidates to send a 500-word statement or a one-minute video. Election Day is Nov. 8.

Name: William (Bill) Rice

Age: 48

Party, position seeking: Republican — Planning Commission

Family information: I have been married to Polly for 23 years and we have two school-aged children, Liza and Will. We continue to enjoy our rural neighborhood in West Simsbury where we have lived for about 20 years. We are active members of the First Congregational Church of Canton Center.

Occupation: Registered professional engineer employed by Alstom Power in Windsor, Conn. as a program technical manager.

Political experience: My political experience began 15 years ago when I was elected to the Simsbury Republican Town Committee. As an SRTC member I have been active in every campaign by manning phone banks and managing campaign sign deployment. I have served on the SRTC nominating committee and the Simsbury Public Building Committee. I am currently an alternate on the Simsbury Planning Commission.

Other experience: I have been very involved in Simsbury Little League and Babe Ruth coaching teams at all levels.

Statement: My current efforts participating in the revision of the Town of Simsbury Subdivision Regulations will be very valuable going forward as the planning commission prepares to discuss and ultimately adopt the new regulations. I am an objective person who considers all aspects of an issue before making a decision. If elected to the planning commission, I will ensure that all proposed development in town will be consistent with existing guidelines, regulations and our population’s sentiment of maintaining the unique character of Simsbury. I hope you will consider voting for me on November 8.
