Rabid Skunk Found Near Notch Road

Police encourage anyone who came in contact with a skunk to contact a doctor immediately.

A skunk that was recovered near Notch Road, after it was seen fighting with two dogs, has tested positive for rabies.

Simsbury Police Animal Control Officer Mark Rudewicz responded to a Notch Road home after a resident reported seeing a skunk fighting with two dogs, according to a release.

The skunk was found injured and taken to the Department of Public Health for testing. Simsbury Police were notified on Wednesday that the skunk tested positive for rabies.

Police are encouraging anyone who may have come into contact with a skunk  in that area within the last two weeks to contact a doctor immediately. If anyone knows of a domesticated animal who came into contact with a skunk, police are encouraging them to contact a veterinarian.
