Simsbury Public Library Offers Programs for College Bound Students

The Simsbury Public Library located at 725 Hopmeadow St. (Rt. 10) is offering 4 free programs for college bound students. On Thursday, September 27 from 7:00-8:30, local tutors Heather Carroll and Coleman Ross will discuss “SAT vs. ACT? Which Test is Right for You”. Learn the histories of the two tests, how they compare, and which test may be the best for you/your child. Vicki Rushworth of CollegeChoice Prep will present "Cracking the SAT and ACT: How to Get Your Best Score" on Wednesday, October 3 from 7:00-8:30. Vicki will share tips and tricks for handling the sentence completion section, the reading passages and the math sections of the test. On October 9, 10, 30 or November 1 from 7:00-8:30 PM, 15 students per workshop will have the opportunity to learn strategies to write an effective SAT essay on all aspects of the essay and receive feedback on their essays in an "SAT Essay Workshop" with local tutor Martha Gilbert. Students may sign up for 1 of the 4 workshops. On Saturday, October 6 from 11:00-1:30, Simsbury Library and Kaplan Test Prep partner to offer a "Free Full-Length Practice PSAT Exam". Students will have the opportunity to sample the test and gauge their strengths and weaknesses under timed conditions that simulate the actual PSAT administration.
