Boy Scout Troop 174 Leaf raking weekend a success!

Boy Scout Troop 174 has two primary events for fundraising each year, leaf raking and Christmas tree sales. Leaf raking fell on November 16-17th this year, and the troop raked about a dozen yards. Because this is a mandatory activity, at least 6 hours were required from each scout. Many scouts worked more than 6 hours!
Between raking and Christmas trees, 174 generally collects a bit more money than is required for the purposes of running the troop. What happens to the rest? The excess money is placed into the escrow accounts of the scouts, proportional to how much work they perform. Scouts are paid by the hour, so siblings and parents efforts all count towards the scouts escrow, making it a great family activity. This money is then used for Scout camp, Patrol outings or outdoor related gear.
Looking ahead, Christmas Tree sales start immediately following Thanksgiving- and all the details will be posted on the Patch!
