Cobb School Begins 40th Year

The Cobb School, Montessori in Simsbury welcomed back students this week.

The start of the new year is always exciting at Cobb, but this year is particularly exciting.  The 2013-2014 school year marks the 40th Anniversary of The Cobb School, Montessori.

Founder and Head of School Mary Lou Cobb remarked, “I can’t help thinking about my first class of nine students: Edie, Jonathan, Sarah, Michael, Jennifer, Fletcher, Dougie and the two Amy’s.  We finished that year with 14, but it’s those first nine that I remember so well.”

Although Montessori schools have been around since 1907, the Montessori movement has gained momentum over the past decade.  Famous alumni such as Google founders, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, and other internationally known figures such as Jeff Bezos, Will Wright and Prince William have helped make Montessori a household name.

The Cobb School has been offering an authentic Montessori education since 1974.  Accredited by the Association Montessori Internationale, The Cobb School is proud to have been providing children with both a loving and challenging educational environment for four decades.

Asked what her one message for the community is as the school begins its 40th year, Mary Lou Cobb says, “Believe in your child.  It’s so important to remember that within every child there is great potential.  That potential may not show itself at this moment.  But if we believe, really believe, if we offer love and guidance, in time, their greatness will reveal itself.”

The Cobb School invites you to its Country Fair October 5th, its Open House October 16th, and to visit the school and find out for yourself what 40 years of love and respect for the child looks like.
