Farmington Bank Community Concert Series Grows to 17 Performances by Simply Swing

Back for the third year in a row, the 2014 Farmington Bank Community Concert Series featuring Simply Swing has expanded to 17 performances.

The series will kick off with a performance on Sunday, April 27, at 2 p.m. at the Town Hall in Newington.

“The audience feedback for our Simply Swing concert series has been so positive, we decided to expand it into 17 communities this year,” said John J. Patrick, Jr., chairman, president and CEO of Farmington Bank. “We’re pleased to support the continuation of the wonderful American tradition of free, community concerts.”

Simply Swing is a 10-piece ensemble specializing in the music of Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington and Count Basie; vocalists Ella Fitzgerald, Natalie Cole and Diana Krall; and high energy Swing Dance favorites. The group released its first CD in 2013, “Dancing to Simply Swing” featuring music composed for swing and ballroom dancers by Joe LaRosa, the group’s musical director.

“We totally embrace the idea of performing music that encourages people to participate,” said Vivian LaRosa, Simply Swing’s vocalist. “We love to see toes tapping, audience members swaying in their lawn chairs and singing along. If there’s some pavement nearby – we’ll get couples up and dancing,” she added.
