Simsbury Republicans to make special announcement

SIMSBURY — Longtime Republican Selectman Moira Wertheimer has announced she will not seek a fifth term on the Board of Selectman.  Instead, she will run for the seat on the Board of Finance being vacated by Republican Kevin North.  Wertheimer’s running mate will be board chairman Paul Henault, who has declared his intention to seek another term.

“On behalf of our entire party, we are profoundly grateful to Moira for all of her years of dedicated service as a Selectman working tirelessly for the people of Simsbury,” said Barbara Petitjean, chairman of the Republican nominating committee.  “”We are thrilled that she has decided to continue her service by bringing her proven track record as a fiscal conservative to the Board of Finance.”

With Wertheimer’s decision, there are now four Republicans who have declared their candidacies for the Board of Selectmen.  They are incumbents Nancy Haase and Sean Askham, as well as Planning Commission chairman Mike Paine and Housing Authority commissioner Cheryl Cook.  To date, none have publicly stated their intention to run for first selectman.

However, the Simsbury Republicans announced today that they will hold a press conference on Tuesday, July 23 at which time they will reveal which of the four candidates will challenge incumbent Democrat Mary Glassman.  The press conference will begin at 5:30 p.m. in front of Eno Hall.  The Simsbury Republican nominating caucus will follow that evening inside Eno Hall at 7:00 p.m.
