TCBY to host 2nd Annual Summer Fun Day for MDA

SIMSBURY – Free food and festivities are on the menu for TCBY Avon Marketplace’s 2nd Annual Summer Fun Day, set for Sunday, July 28 from noon to 5 p.m. The event will benefit two charities, the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Kids Camp and the Teddy Bears for Tears program.

Activities will include two TCBY yogurt eating contests and a hot dog eating contest sponsored by The Meat House, one of seven food purveyors who will offer free food samplings during the event.

“We’re very excited about this year’s event,” said Mark Arnold of Simsbury, TCBY Avon Marketplace co-owner with his wife, Lisa. “We have many new vendors this year.”

Demonstrations will be given by many participating vendors, including a BMX bicycle exhibition by Bikers Edge of Avon. Another highlight will be the filming of a routine by students of ACROFitness in Simsbury. The tape will be submitted to the show “So You Think You Can Dance.”

Children can enjoy a Bounce House provided by Superior Health Spa & Leisure for a donation to the MDA, and kids can interact with a Waste Management Trucking “Touch a Truck.”

“The MDA will provide volunteers to assist with our event and will have a character costume surprise guest there,” Arnold said.

Non-profit organizations from around the Farmington Valley will also have a presence.

The Valley Collector Car Club will showcase more than 30 classic cars, firefighters from the Simsbury Fire District will bring a truck and teach fire safety techniques, and members of the Avon High Uberbots Team will demonstrate their robot.

“We’ll be setting up in a new spot this year, closer to Rte. 44, so we anticipate a larger crowd,” Arnold said. “Come early so you can take advantage of all there is to see.”

Attendees interested in winning a free drawing or prize will need to be there near the end of the event, however. “You’ll have to be present to win,” he said.
