Pre-Halloween Fun In Simsbury

The Cabbage Night tradition was in full swing at Antonio's Wednesday night as participants worked to launch 801 rolls of toilet paper into the trees around the restaurant.

It's a tradition that dates back decades when Steven Antonio's parents worked to keep the kids from causing mischief.

These days participants bring an item for foodshare in exchange for a roll — or often several.

The restaurant also debuted custom-made roll launchers.

"Everyone had a blast," said owner Steven Antonio. "It was well worth it again."

Eddy Graczewski and his daughter Nicole came down from Westfield, Mass. for the second year to bring a donation, have a meal at the restaurant and join the fun. He said he wanted to thank Antonio for a great night out.

"It was so good the first year, we came back," Nicole Graczewski said.

Over at Simsbury Public Library Wednesday night, large crowds came out for a town-wide Halloween Celebration that included a costume parade, magic, trick-or-treating, safety tips, crafts, storytelling and more.
