Friends of the Fountain Raise $4,000 to Help Keep it Running

The Friends of White Memorial Fountain in Weatogue raised approximately $4,000 Wednesday night to help keep it going.

For the third year, Abigail’s Grille and Wine Bar, hosted a Fountain Bash to raise funds for the upkeep, maintenance and other costs associated with keeping the water flowing at the historic landmark, which is directly across from the Abigail's patio where the event was held.

The Simsbury Historical Society is the caretaker for the fountain and the effort is supported by the Simsbury Main Street Partnership and Simsbury Cemetery Association. The restaurant donates food and drink for the event so 100 percent goes to the effort.

With 40 tickets sold at $100, the event generated about $4,000 said Kevin E. Gray, President of the society's board of directors. He estimated that between mowing, electricity for the lights and other maintenance it costs about $6,000 a year to run.

In addition, groups like the Simsbury Garden Club and Simsbury Beautification Committee volunteer to help spruce up the grounds.
