Gun-Control Group's First Meeting Draws Large Crowd

The first meeting of the Community Coalition for Responsible Gun Control was held Monday night at the Community House ... were you there? What did you take away from the meeting?

About 100 people, including state legislators and representatives of U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy and Third District U.S. Rep. Rosa DeLauro, packed the Community House on Church Street Monday night for the first meeting of the Community Coalition for Responsible Gun Control, according to the New Haven Register.

The group is the brainchild of Branford resident and current Branford Board of Education Chair Frank Carrano, who told Patch last week that he "felt compelled to do some follow up" after he posted concerns over gun control on his Facebook page following the Sandy Hook School shooting in Newtown and "people were really responsive."

According to the Register, the discussion at Monday night's meeting, which was attended by state Sen. Ed Meyer and state Reps. Patricia Widlitz and Lonnie Reed, stayed focused mostly on the root causes of gun violence.

Did you attend the meeting? Was the discussion meaningful? Will you attend future meetings? Tell us in the comments.

If all the gun control advocates get their way only government and criminals will have guns. Address the liberal entitlement mentality that breeds violence (absent/deadbeat/criminal fathers) instead. Start executing people for certain crimes instead of putting them in jail with three hots and a cot. Stop rewarding mass child breeding with government freebies. I'm sorry for those that lost people in the school but it wasn't the guns fault it was the parents fault for allowing this freak to have access to guns. This was a isolated incident, the majority of gun violence takes place in cities and is committed by people who had absent/deadbeat/criminal fathers and mothers that collected government handouts. The government should not allow anyone to bear a child unless they are financially sound enough to do so without government assitance. That would slash shootings by 90 percent over time. Gun control will do little to reduce these criminal acts.
