Students Invited to Show Their Take on Nature's Beauty

Students often have a unique way of looking at the things and what better way to showcase that than through photography?

To do just that, there’s a still time for students in grades K to 12 to enter the Beauty of Nature Photography contest through the children's room at Simsbury Public Library.

The year-long effort started last fall and contest entries are grouped into three age groups — K to 2; 3 to 6, and 7 to 12.

There is still time to enter the spring season contest and summer entries can be submitted from June 1 to Aug. 31.

"We decided to do the contest as part of Simsbury's year-long celebration of native Gifford Pinchot," said Cheryl Donahue, head of children's services.

Submissions should be:

  • Taken by the student,
  • Be at least 640 x 480 pixels in size
  • Named with the student's name and grade
  • Accompanied by a sentence or two describing your inspiration for the photograph and how it relates to the theme.
  • Contain Name, Grade, Phone —  home & cell, where and when the photo was taken.
  • Accompanied by a sentence or two describing your inspiration for the photograph and how it relates to the theme.

Entries will be judged on How well the photograph exemplifies the theme and written inspiration as well as the technical merit of the photograph.

Submit entries to cdonahue@simsburylibrary.info

For more information or questions, inquire at the children's room.

In addition to seasonal winners there will be one Grand Prize winner for each age group from the four seasonal winners for that group. Each of the three Grand Prize Winners will be awarded a digital camera.

The season winners' photographs will be displayed at the library.
