Missing Beagle Spotted in Simsbury

Have you seen Jilly? She's been spotted in Simsbury and Granby near the bike trail.

A local family is still searching for an adopted Beagle that went missing on Sept. 11 and there have been multiple sightings recently.

Jilly was adopted from an Ohio dog rescue agency in early September and has been missing since just four days after she came to her new home in Simsbury. Jilly was last seen on Monday, October 15 in the area of Tuller Circle, according to her owners.

The family has been told of sightings as far south as Abigails Wine Bar & Grille and as far north as Granby near the Farmington Valley Greenway.

Jilly was most likely abused before she was adopted and seems to be very afraid of people, according to her owners. Those who have seen Jilly said she appears to be very skinny and very dirty.

If you happen to spot Jilly wandering around, contact Chris at 860 559 9657 or Simsbury Animal Control at (860) 658-3110.

Just wanted to update. This is my missing dog. It is currently 1:10am friday morning. i just recieved a call from a resident who lives on Tuller Circle down by the bowling alley. He just saw Jilly roaming around down in that area. He aproached her and got about 10 ft away and she took off on him towards Lake Basile. I am going to move some traps over to that area first thing in the morning, but she may now be enticed with food.

Just put the word out to some friends who have businesses down there to keep an eye out for her... We have a beagle and live in the northern part of Simsbury, He's a barker, if you think that taking him out down there would help. I would happily take do so...

Hi Susan, the beagle was seen yesterday near West Mountain Road & Wildwood. I am thinking that the next time we hear of a sighting, call Chris or mark Rudewicz (animal patrol for simsbury) and perhaps they can borrow your beagle's bark asap near the area of the last sighting and perhaps draw her towards your dog and people!

I would be happy to help as well. I have terriers and dogs seem to go toward other dogs!!

The hard part is 1) she seems to have become nocturnal 2) we never know where she is or where she is headed 3) it seems that she has gotten off the main trail in town where businesses, people, restauraunts and pets travel frequently. Now she is getting into the outskirts of town approx. 10-15 miles away from "home" into more heavily wooded, rural areas. My son has never owned a beagle before, so we don't know if she would feel as though she is being hunted & chased and then run farther away. Are you in simsbury?

She was seen in Granby today 11/13/12 near Rte 20 & Canal Rd. headed toward Hungry Rd & Rte 10/202. The woman tried to give her some dog treats, but the beagle got nervous & took off!

Susan, I think we may be at the point of needing to borrow your beagle to bark & bay at "Jilly". She is currently in the Granby Center area as of 11/13/12. also sighted near Rte 20/Canal Rd/Rte 189/ bike path running parallel to Canal rd in Granby. Call Chris Liiley at 860-559-9657 to try and arrange.

Please keep us updated on Jilly. My friend and I will go out again this weekend and look around in those areas. We were thinking about her the day we had the snow, we were worried. But obviously she's hunkering down somewhere and finding a little food. At least there is still hope that she will be able to be rescued and back home with you guys. Has animal control helped you at all? Or have they given you any tips on how to catch her? Here's my email: Eastside113@yahoo.com let me know if there are any more sightings before the weekend and we'll check those areas also.

Granby animal patrol has traps out in specific areas near the bike path. We put posters up in Granby Center yesterday. One is in the window at McDonalds. a 1/2 hour after we put that sign up we got a call that someone near Millborn Dairy Farm on rte 189 in Granby saw here yesterday morning.

There's always hope for Jilly. She's been out there this long, she's finding a way to survive. Maybe one weekend we could get a handful of people together to search in certain areas. I still think she's getting inside an out building on someone's property that maybe they are feeding her and just not able to get close to her.

Iris, thanks for staying up on the missing beagle story. She was seen multiple times yestersay 12/12/12 in Granby. The animal patrol officer thought she may have gone towards the Salmon Brook Park. Two boys saw her near the Granby Town Hall complex. She was also near Canal Rd again where she was exactly a month ago. She will need to cornered somehow in order to be caught. Everyone who has seen her this week says she is looking good, looks strong, and is very, very fast! There is also another missing beagle from simsbury. I can't believe this!

Just got a call 10 minutes ago. "Jilly" is up neat the Granby Town Hall complex again. Many people in the Senior housing complex at Stoney Brook are out looking for her right now.
Iris lambert December 13, 2012 at 06:50 PM
I think it is a matter of time before someone catches up with her, keeping my fingers crossed.

Rebecca, you're welcome. I'm willing to help out anyone that goes to this extent of looking for their pet. I think when not if you get a hold of her you guys should change her name to Whodini....lol this is just crazy. But at least if these sightings are her, she's looking healthy, which means someone is feeding her and giving her water. I think me and a friend will go back out in that area again, possiblt tomorrow and on the weekend.

Was Jilly ever found? I have been working with the group in Farmington looking for Sassy and thought about Jilly.. Rycarjam@gmail.com
Rebecca Strempfer March 11, 2013 at 03:09 PM
Thanks for asking, but no she was never found. Between Dec 2012 & Jan 2013, 4 beagles in Granby had been caught, plus one in Suffield and one in Southwick. None of them were "Jilly" . Once the first snow came in mid-december, all sightings of her ceased.

Oh that is so sad :-(
