Peter Frampton's Performance at Simsbury Performing Arts Center Canceled

Guitar Circus was to take place Aug. 7

Peter Frampton's Guitar Circus performance at Simsbury Meadows, slated for Aug. 7, has been canceled. According to a press release from the promoter, it was due to "unforeseen circumstances."

Paul Marte, communications manager at The Bushnell said the message originated with the band and had no further information. The promoter was happy with the roughly 1,400 advance ticket sales, he added.

Robert Hensley, Chairman of the Performing Arts Center (PAC) Board, said he was not given a reason for the cancellation.

Hensley acknowledged his disappointment but said the situation could have been worse — such as a rain-filled concert night or cancelation closer to the date when the center would have already paid to rent many of the "support functions" for the show.

Hensley also said he still feels this season has been a good one with the Hartford Symphony's Talcott Mountain Music Festival as well as the Harry Connick Jr. and Emmylou Harris shows produced by Premier Concerts and The Bushnell.

The PAC also now hosts Septemberfest, set this year for Sept. 6, 7, 8.

This year has been a good learning experience with the advantages and challenges of an outdoor venue, he said.

Hensley said he is still optimistic the PAC will end the year in good shape financially and be ready to turn operations fully over to the larger, more diverse non-profit board in January.

"I think it will be good that way," Hensley said.

It's not likely another show would be produced this summer, Hensley added.

For those who purchased tickets, refunds will be available automatically by Ticketmaster or by calling the Box Office at (860) 987-5900.

According to the performer's Web site, Frampton is still playing other scheduled shows.
