Simsbury Spinners Help Newtown 'March Strong' on Labor Day

By Gary Jeanfaivre

It's a Newtown tradition, and this year it was extra special.

The town's 2013 Labor Day Parade — its first since the tragic shooting on Dec. 14, 2012, claimed the life of 20 first graders and six educators — carried the theme, "We Are Newtown — Marching Strong."

Those marching in support included the Simsbury Spinners.

Connecticut dignitaries, including Gov. Dannel P. Malloy, U.S. Senators Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal, marched alongside Newtown First Selectman Patricia Llodra. Hundreds of floats, marching bands and organizations throughout the state converged in the town's historic district for the 52nd annual parade on Monday.
