Simsbury Student and Resident Achievements

'Tis the season of graduation and dean's lists.

Ashley L. Cale received a bachelor of science in nursing during Quinnipiac University's 80th undergraduate commencement exercises on May 22.

Marc Bonaguide graduated from the Quinnipiac University School of Law during a commencement ceremony on May 15.

Bryant University held its 187th commencement on May 21. Among the graduates are the following local residents: R Kurt Goetjen, bachelor of science in business administration, accounting and Jordan Papadinis, bachelor of science in business administration, accounting (summa cum laude).

Rebecca Taber-Conover, public programs coordinator at Connecticut’s Old State House, has been announced as the first-ever recipient of the Bruce Fraser Friend of CCSS Award from the Connecticut Council for the Social Studies. 

The award is presented to a non-teaching professional who has significantly furthered the advancement of social studies education.

In presenting her with this award, CCSS has recognized Taber-Conover’s contributions to the development of innovative educational and community programming at Connecticut’s Old State House, as well as her leadership in the museum’s collaboration with the Connecticut Historical Society on the state’s annual History Day competition for 2010 and 2011.

Lauren Fryxell was among the 184 students who received graduate degrees from Providence College during the college's 93rd commencement exercises held on May 15. Fryxell received a master's degree in business administration.

The following residents graduated May 14 from Worcester Polytechnic Institute: Taylor John Mazzali was awarded a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering and Joseph Richard Worthen was awarded a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering.

Keene State College has released the dean's list for the spring semester 2011. Among the 1,450 students named to the dean's list were: Rebecca Lynn Rieger, Megan Sanfilippo and Lauren Elizabeth Evans.

Sean M. Callahan, class of 2012, was an Omicron Delta Kappa Inductee, and received the Alexander Black Medal at Moving-Up Day ceremonies held recently at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. He is majoring in English.

Omicron Delta Kappa is a national leadership honorary that recognizes upperclassman who are successful in academics, athletics, community and campus service, the performing arts, and journalism. Callahan graduated from Simsbury High School.

Graduating from the University of Vermont on May 22: Anne M. Barone, Hayley M. Burgos, Adam C. Egan, Margaret J. Glass, Jonathan P. West, Evan C. Salzberg, Kelly M. Kreisher and David M. Veith.

Joshua Palmbach was named to the dean's list for the 2011 spring semester at Messiah College.

Several residents were presented with awards at The Ethel Walker School Spring 2011 Athletic Awards Ceremony. Karen Macke, class of 2013, received the Junior Varsity Softball Most Valuable Player; and CodyAnn Patrina, class of 2011, received the Varsity Lacrosse Outstanding Defensive Player and the Founders League All-League Lacrosse;

Drew University student Austin K. Goetjen has been named to the dean's list for the spring 2011 semester.

Katherine Elizabeth Frechette graduated from McDaniel College with a bachelor of arts degree in psychology-sociology May 21.
