Simsbury Student and Resident Achievements

A look at the recent accomplishments of locals.

Attorney Derek Mogck has been named a partner at Shipman & Goodwin LLP. Mogck practices in the areas of construction and business litigation. He advises clients on institutional and residential construction projects and related disputes, as well as conflicts between investors and their advisors, contractual disputes and unfair trade practice claims. He is the past co-chair of the trial evidence subcommittee of the American Bar Association and member of the board of directors of the University of Hartford Construction Institute. Mogck, a partner in the firm’s Hartford office.

The following local residents have been named to the dean’s list for the spring 2011 semester at Fairfield University: Katherine A Baldwin, Courtney L Dumais and David J Cunningham.

Michael J. Oleskewicz has received faculty honors for the 2011 spring semester at Trinity College. To earn faculty honors, a student must achieve a semester grade point average of at least a 3.667 with no individual letter grade below B-minus.

The Junior League of Hartford announced its new slate of officers and board of directors for 2011-2012, including Jennifer Fletcher and Patty Fish.

This year marks the league’s 90th anniversary; the 65th year the Clothes Horse consignment shop has been in business raising revenue to help support league operations; the 25th year that Souper Sustainers has been serving lunch once a month at Loaves and Fishes Ministries, a non-profit organization that provides human services to the poor in Hartford; the 10th anniversary of Links and Laughter, a ladies golf outing and luncheon fundraiser; the 5th year of the Backpack Program through which the league distributes backpacks of food to students in need at an elementary school in Hartford; and the first anniversary of Freshplace’s operations.

The Junior League of Hartford, Inc. is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable. Since 1921, league has been committed to making a difference in the greater Hartford community by assessing and identifying community needs, and then developing either direct programs or collaborations with other organizations and agencies to help meet those needs. Comcast awards $47,000 in scholarships to 38 Connecticut students for their academic achievement and community service commitment, including Katherine Pellon, a graduate of the Ethel Walker School who will be attending Wofford College, who received $1,000.

Sarah Worthen, class of 2014 at Skidmore College, earned highest honors for the spring semester. She is the daughter of Joseph and Laura Worthen. Highest honors are awarded for a quality point ratio of 3.670 or more from a possible 4.0. Honors are awarded for a grade point ratio of 3.4 to 3.669.

The following area residents have been named to the dean’s list at Providence College for the Spring 2011 semester: Kara Downes, Jennifer Sieber, Benjamin Kreczko and Christopher Horn. To qualify for the dean’s list, students must achieve at least a 3.55 grade point average with a minimum of 12 credits.
