Tariffville Post Office Sign Missing

The police are investigating.

The Tariffville Post Office sign is missing. The sign, which was mounted on the post office building, was removed and taken from the site.

"We were hoping that someone would step forward and let us know they had it for safe-keeping, but that has not been the case," said Chet Matczak, president of the Tariffville Village Association. "If the U.S. Postal Service decides to reopen a post office in Tariffville, we'd certainly want to be able to use the original sign."

The sign remains the property of the Postal Service, and the postmaster had to report it as stolen. As a result, a detective from the Simsbury Police Department has been assigned and is investigating the incident.

If the sign is returned it will be up to the Postal Service whether or not charges will be filed.
