Viewfinder: Simsbury Farms Hockey Rink

Viewfinder is a new weekly feature that will highlight photography by Simsbury's amateur and professional photographers. With the help of the Simsbury Camera Club, which will choose the weekly photograph, we hope to explore Simsbury's creative side.

This week's photograph was taken by Ray Padron.

About the Photograph

Simsbury Farms Hockey Rink: I had taken many photos of this excellent facility but none with skaters using the ring.  On this day I found the right number of skaters present so I could take an image that minimized identification of individual skaters, yet showed the skaters of the right size with the imposing background of the ring, and all in good focus.

About the Photographer

I am an independent Real Estate Broker and Photographer.  As the liaison between the Simsbury Camera Club and the Simsbury Bank Calendar Contest project, I am always looking for scenic views that I can submit for the consideration of the contest organizers.  One result of this orientation toward our town's photo opportunities led to my decision to recently publish a photographic book: "SIMSBURY: A New England Jewel".  And, with the assistance of Simsbury Community Television, I also developed a video based on the book, that can be seen on the intenet using the link: http://simsburytv.org/video/6273401.  The majority of the images that I submitted for consideration by the Eno Photo Committe, came from this book. Three images were selected for display at Eno.

The Simsbury Camera Club is a local group of professional and non-professional photography enthusiasts. Founded in 1955 the club is interested in "enhancing the photographic skills" of members, according to their website. New members are encouraged to attend meetings on the first Tuesday of every month at the Simsbury Public Library at 7 p.m. and on the third Wednesday of every month at Eno Memorial Hall at 7 p.m. Meeting dates are subject to change. Visit www.simsburycameraclub.com for updated information.
