Farmington Valley Chorale Receives State Grant

Gift will fund chorale's May 16, 2014 performance of Brahms' Requiem.

The Farmington Valley Chorale, Ellen G. Voth, artistic director, has been awarded an Arts Catalyze Placemaking – Supporting Arts in Place grant from the Department of Economic and Community Development/Connecticut Office of the Arts.  The program awards grants to eligible arts organizations and municipal arts offices to strengthen the state’s non-profit arts industry as vital to its economy and quality of life.

According to Deborah Carey, Chorale vice president, the grant will be used to help fund the Chorale’s May 16, 2014 performance of Brahms’ Requiem. “We are excited and proud to receive this grant and recognition. With the generous support of the Connecticut Office of the Arts and other granting organizations, we are now close to hitting our revenue target for a fully orchestrated production of one of the great choral masterworks.”  The Chorale will be performing this monumental work for the first time in its forty-plus year history.

John Hampton, Simsbury’s state representative, is supportive of the Chorale’s grant. “I am thrilled that the Farmington Valley Chorale has been awarded an Arts Catalyze Placemaking – Supporting Arts in Place grant. The Chorale is a beloved community treasure that enriches so many lives through the power of music. It is critical that we invest in non-profit organizations like the Farmington Valley Chorale that promote arts, culture, economic growth and tourism in the State of Connecticut. If offer my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to the Farmington Valley Chorale.”
