Rainbow Over Ethel Walker: This picture was taken at 6 p.m. on July 26, 2011 from the top of the little hill across from the Ethel Walker campus. I smile every time I see this in my albums because it was not taken with my more expensive digital SLR camera. That summer I had taken to heart the old adage that the “best camera is the one you always have with you” and started to carry a Canon G9 advanced point and shoot camera around with me. I was coming north on Bushy Hill after a quick run to the grocery store when I noticed the rainbow. I knew about the driveway to the top of this hill and made a quick stop. The fresh rain made for some vivid colors in the evening sun. The opportunity was over within 10 minutes, so I was in the right place at the right time and had a camera with me to capture it.

Geoff Mather has been shooting family events and vacations since pre-digital days, but began to get more serious when he started covering church events for the St. Alban’s Episcopal Church newsletter and web site. Post retirement, he became a member of the Simsbury Camera Club and is getting more proficient with the help of its expert, friendly members.
The Simsbury Camera Club is a local group of professional and non-professional photography enthusiasts. Founded in 1955 the club is interested in "enhancing the photographic skills" of members, according to their website.
New members are encouraged to attend meetings on the first Tuesday of every month at the Simsbury Public Library at 7 p.m. and on the third Wednesday of every month at Eno Memorial Hall at 7 p.m. Meeting dates are subject to change. Visit www.simsburycameraclub.com for updated information.
