Severe Thunderstorm and Flash Flood Watch Issued, Tornadoes Possible

Flash floods and isolated tornadoes are a possibility as storm intensity increases.

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm and flash flood warning for northern Connecticut.

Thunderstorms are expected to develop across the region after 4 p.m. bringing the potential for periods of severe weather. The intensity of the storm is expected to gradually increase from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. with the most severe weather expected later tonight, according to the NWS.

The NWS has also issued a flash flood watch that will be in effect from 4 p.m. until Friday morning.

"Rainfall of 2 to 4 inches are possible within a short period of time," the hazardous weather report said.

Heavy rain could cause significant flooding in urban and poor drainage areas as well as flooding in areas with small streams. The storms could be accompanied by strong winds, large hail, and dangerous lightning, according to the report.

The warning includes a chance of isolated tornadoes across western Massachussetts and northern Connecticut.
