It's been months since Nassau's Furniture left Avon, but now a new furniture store has taken its place.

Boyles Furniture & Rugs opened at 15 Waterville Rd. on Aug. 22 after a ribbon-cutting ceremony the day before. Sen. Richard Blumenthal and company executives gave remarks at the ceremony, according to a press release from Boyles.

The furniture company started in 1949 in North Carolina. Due to the economy, "the company went through a wind-down in 2010," but Farmington Valley and other investors bought the "brand in joint venture with the sons (Chad and Alex Hendricks) of the previous owners" in November of 2012, the release stated.

“We renovated and re-opened the Mocksville, NC store in May of 2013 in the 65,000 square foot former Boyles location that was built by the hands of the Hendricks grandfather decades ago,” Mark Bannon, president of Boyles Brand Holdings, LLC and Boyles Furniture & Rugs, said. “We also opened a corporate office in Hickory, NC in the heart of the USA furniture industry, as well as our main corporate office and distribution center inBloomfield, CT. The Avon, CT store is the second retail location to open since the acquisition, with more to follow.”

In addition to the original North Carolina headquarters, Boyles had stores predominantly in the southeastern part of the country and had a "nationwide catalogue program that served customers in Connecticut, as well as the nation, according to the release.

“My business partners and I are life-long furniture industry professionals, some of which live in Farmington Valley,” Banan said. “Recognizing the void in the market and pent-up demand for better quality American made furniture in the wake of so many furniture stores that have closed over the past years, we feel that the timing for this grand opening has significant benefit to the community and the industry as a whole.”

Banan said he's excited to be a part of "revitalizing" the brand and industry.

“In the wake of a very challenging decade for the furniture industry, and in the dawn of what we believe to be a turning point and resurgence of the economy, this is an important American story about creating jobs, stimulating the economy and is a significant historical moment for our local community in CT as well as the NC furniture industry," Banan said.
