CSA Shares Still Available at Hall's Farm in Simsbury

There may be many ways to implement Community Supported Agriculture but at George L. Hall Farm most "shareholders" still stop by every Tuesday during the growing season to gather their vegetables, socialize and meet those who grow their food.

"One of my favorite things about the CSA is that it brings people to the farm," said second year Hall's intern Guinevere Brittain. "It gives you a better idea of where your food comes from."

A CSA is simply a system where people pay a fee ahead of time and get a weekly supply of vegetables. It's designed to give farmers cash up front while giving customers some perks with some risk involved.

In some cases, they are done through co-ops or farms that offer products from a variety of growers. Many farms like Hall's still offer their own produce directly.

Hall's, also known as Ogre Farm, offers certified organic vegetables it grows at its location on Old Farms Roads and other properties in town, in all giving the operation access to some 100 acres. The farm's summer CSA starts June 18 and runs through late October. For $525, customers can go to the farm each Tuesday between 2 and 6 p.m. to pick their "share" of vegetables, which varies throughout the season.
