HomeGoods to Occupy Former Borders Location

The company agreed to lease the Bushy Hill retail space in April.

It's been almost a year since the Borders Group closed its Simsbury location and the building has remained empty ever since. Soon, the vacant retail space at 500 Bushy Hill Road will once again be host to consumer activity.

Last month, Charter Realty and Development announced that it has leased the 23,500-square-foot retail space to HomeGoods.

HomeGoods, a TJX Company, is a retail home fashion store introduced in 1992 and operates approximately 336 stores, according to Charter Realty.

Hiram Peck, Director of Planning and Land Use for the town of Simsbury, said the town has not received any applications for signage or floor plans from the company. Before the company moves forward with use of the space it will have to present plans to town officials for approval, Peck said.

TJX and Charter Realty have not responded to inquiries about the proposed store location.

The HomeGoods Simsbury location represents the 31st deal the commercial real estate company has completed with TJX Company, according to a release.

What an awful decision. Why does this area need another Linens n Things/BBB/etc., especially in the same damn complex as a BBB? There are several underrepresented businesses in this area -- I'm totally dumbfounded by this move.

It's a shame it couldn't have been an activity center like laser tag for the kids. Giving them something to do on a friday night instead of adding another clearance bland retailer. As if TJX,Marshalls (2 on 44 alone) ,and Bobs are not enough withinin a mile radius. Maybe we can have another drug store open up where in the old FYE/Strawberries was and really amp up consumer excitement in the valley.

I wish a Dave and Busters type of place would have went in. Oh well.
Michelle May 11, 2012 at 04:12 PM
Great place to shop, not my first choice of retailers to come here, and terrible location, so close to BB&B! Marcie, LOVE the Dave and Busters idea.

A real tenant pays property taxes on inventory, to maybe Hiram Peck needs to take a vacation and not threaten new businesses with grief on floor plans and signage. Geez Simsbury is true to form on not being business friendly.

I agree with the Dave & Busters idea, but at least the spot won't be vacant any more.

How about a Buffalo Wild Wings?

TOTALLY THRILLED the Home Goods is going in. There's nothing like that in that shopping center, or anyone else in Farmington Valley...short of a few remnants within the Marshalls/TJ Maxx stores. Anyone who loves to decorate is likely very happy this is going in vs another bland/chain eatery.

I am thrilled to find out we are finally getting a Home Goods in this area.

LOVE Dave n busters idea!!!!!!!!! I heard TJMaxx was closing... This may be why....
Marci July 13, 2012 at 04:17 PM
TJMax employees said it was coming until March but March is better than nothing. I'm surprised, being that they're the same owners, that they're not putting it in the Max closing today for good..It would make Rt. 44 look less vacant and btw, it's products are all name brands and less expensive the BB&B according to my daughter who has one near them in Wheaton,Ill. What is Dave&Busters.. Never heard of it... Still want a Bloomingdales!!

AWESOME!!!!! Totally psyched Homegoods is finally coming closer to home - no more 45 minute trips to Vernon or longer to Fairfield CT areas...so excited!!! :)

I am thrilled that Home Goods is coming to Simsbury. With TJ Max gone which I will miss, this is a perfect replacement. Great quality products at reasonable prices.

All you whiners will be the first to shop at Homegoods. Simsbury and Avon have gone to Hell over the past 15-20 years. all they want are more taxes so we add more shopping. As a Avon Resident I was born here when Rt 44 had a A&P and that was about it. Homegoods can go home and so can starbucks and all the rest.
Ben December 10, 2012 at 01:10 AM
Get over it Paul, look at Rt 44 come and go business. There are more important things out there to worry about, I need a job and living on Rt 44 this will be helpful to me and others

Believe it or not, times change and development happens. Unless you have a "pause" button for time, you better get used to the world changing around you - always has and always will.

When Staples was an A&P there were businesses on RT 44, it is a commercial district, it always has been. Before the A&P it was an apple orchard. It is named Crowley's Corner after the former owner.

I keep watching but it's not yet open. TJX moved out last summer. Home Goods is very different than the other businesses around here. Hopefully it will bring more business to the shopping center and to ALL the businesses there, including my favorite BB&B. I would have liked to see a place like LL Beans, or a decent sports store move into the building. Cabellas, for example.
Tracy February 14, 2013 at 08:33 PM
Yayyyyyy. Home Goods. I can't wait. I am going to be there opening day waiting for the doors to open. LOL
Just don't understand why Home Goods would be the same plaza as BB&B?
