Iron Frog Owner Confirms She is Selling the Business

Restaurant open until Dec. 29, location set to close while new group renovates.

The owner of the Iron Frog Tavern has confirmed she is in the process of selling the business to a group of Irish Pub operators.

Pam Paydos opened the popular Simsbury restaurant and pub in November of 2009. She said that it isn’t a lack of business that’s behind the decision but rather the need for a change and to spend more time with her two daughters. She also plans to get back into the real estate business, which she did for 14 years before owning the Iron Frog.

“It’s been a wonderful four years,” Paydos said of running the Iron Frog. “It’s been a great ride. There’s a lot of great memories in that place.”

The restaurant has been a popular destination for dining as well as corporate, social, community and political gatherings. At the same time, the bar portion of the business has attracted a younger crowd with events such as a Tuesday night open mic, trivia nights and live music.

There is also still time to visit before it changes hands.

Except for Christmas, the restaurant will be open through Sunday, Dec. 29.

“We’re running business as normal,” said Paydos, a 17-year resident of Simsbury.

The sale is due to go though at the end of the month.

Paydos did not confirm who is purchasing the business as it is not final but did say they own a “great” location in West Hartford and are local to the area. The name will change, she said.

The new owners do expect to close for approximately one month for renovations and will run a similar type of business but offer more kinds of beer, she added.

"It will still have a neighborhood pub feeling," she said.
