Simsbury Orthodontics Brings New Technology to Farmington Valley

Orthodontist Jeffrey Dixon opened his new Simsbury office on October 1.

When Jeffrey Dixon, DDS, MS,  first relocated to Connecticut nearly three years ago to start a new practice in East Hartford, he had his eyes set on opening a second location here in Simsbury.

Simsbury Orthodontics officially opened its doors to patients on October 1 with a grand opening planned in the near future. A long time in the making, Dixon said he began renovations on 927 Hopmeadow Street in the heart of downtown Simsbury last year.

"I've been planning on doing this for about three years," Dixon said. "It was just a matter of when and where."

Dixon, originally from Vestal, New York, began his first practice after completing his post doctoral studies at the University of Alabama in Birmingham in Greenfield, Mass. He sold the practice after 7 years before moving to Connecticut.

The next stop for Dixon after moving to Granby to be closer to family, was East Hartford where he established East Hartford Orthodontics in 2010.

Now that the dust has settled, his Simsbury office is now home to a state of the art facility that brings some unique features to the Farmington Valley.

Simsbury Orthodontics uses a digital, 3-dimensional X-ray machine that cuts down on the levels of radiation used in traditional X-ray machines. Dixon said this technology, the first of its kind in the state, will be important for his younger patients and will be helpful for other area doctors who can use his technology for implant planning.

Dixon is also excited about the environmental benefits of using digital technology.

"I won't have to use a darkroom which means no harmful chemicals," Dixon said.

Simsbury Orthodontics also utilizes a state of the art water filtration system, also unique to the state.

Dixon will split his time between the two locations and will be at the Simsbury office on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and in East Hartford on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Although Simsbury Orthodontics has only been open for a few weeks, Dixon said there has been a great response from the community and hopes to see steady growth in the future.

"Startups are slow, they always are, but my goal is to offer the highest quality service I possibly can," Dixon said. And that will be his principal strategy in growing his business.

Simsbury Orthodontics offers standard orthodontic care, early prevention care, standard braces, radiance brackets, and is a certified Invisalign provider.
