The following is an interview with Tom Horan, co-owner of Horan's Flowers & Gifts in Simsbury.

This week's spotlight business was recommended by Simsbury Main Street Partnership.

When did your business open? Is it locally-owned?

The flower shop opened in the Fall of 1909 in Hartford by my grandfather.

What types of services/products do you offer?

We are a full service florist and a top member of florist and a top member of Florists Transworld Delivery Association (FTD). We can provide your thoughtful gifts locally as well as most anywhere in the country.

Why did you decide to open your business in Simsbury?

We opened a branch store in Simsbury in 1976 because we were living here in town and we were getting more and more customers that wanted us to drop off flowers on my way home from work.

What is your mission/goal as a Simsbury business owner?

Our goal is to provide good service, quality products and reasonable prices to our many friends and customers. Our name is on the store so we are very insistent that we have good products, the best service and reasonable prices.

How did you get your start?

We took over the business when my dad died in 1968. I was working in print advertising and we had just married. So, in our first year of marriage we bought the business, bought a home in Simsbury and we had our first child. Wow!

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Both my wife, Mary Margaret, and I have tried to be active participants in this great town of ours.
