Small Business Spotlight: Cedar Hill Home Inspections

When did your business open? Is it locally-owned?

Cedar Hill Home Inspection was established in January of 2004. We are a family owned business, based in West Simsbury, CT. Our business was started after I took an early retirement from AT&T, where I finished my 25+ year telecommunications career. After completing a week long training program, I became an intern home inspector, and had to be supervised by a licensed home inspector for 100 inspections. After completing the 100 inspections, passing the home inspector and CT Business Law exams, I became a fully licensed home inspector.

As a home inspector I complete yearly mandatory continuing education to maintain my license in the State of CT. I have advanced training in Residential and Commercial Inspection, Radon Testing, Home Energy Auditing, Infrared Thermal Imaging and more.

I am a certified member of the American Association of Home Inspectors (ASHI). To become a ASHI Certified Inspector (ACI) I had my reports reviewed by a panel of piers, passed the National Home Inspector Exam and had to complete 250 home inspections.

Cedar Hill offers home inspections, commercial building assessments, radon testing, water quality testing, and infrared thermal imaging, as well as other services.

What is your mission/goal as a Simsbury business owner?

To provide quality home, commercial and energy inspections in a timely manner. To give you, our client, a well prepared narrative home inspection report. To be at our appointments on time and spend the time necessary to provide our clients the best home inspection possible.

Why did you decide to open your business in Simsbury?

My wife and I have been residents of Simsbury since 1984. Our 2 daughters attended Simsbury schools and St. Mary School. Both graduated from Simsbury High School. Opening our business in town was just natural.

Is there anything else you’d like to share?

Cedar Hill supports many community functions and events. As a business owner in Simsbury we like to give back. As a Vice President of the Simsbury Chamber of Commerce and a member of the Planning Commission I am able to help our business community and our historic town.
