Small Business Spotlight: Sarah Byrnes, Goldsmith, LLC

The following is an interview conducted with Sarah Byrnes, owner of Sarah Byrnes, Goldsmith, LLC. This week's spotlight business was recommended by Simsbury Main Street Partnership.

When did your business open? Is it locally-owned?

I opened my store, Sarah Byrnes, Goldsmith, LLC 20 years ago, in 1993, in the rear, lower level of The Simsburytown Shops. We are fortunate to now be located on the main level in the front of the building. It took 14 years for this space to become available, but it was worth the wait. We are flooded with natural light and have plenty of room to display our creations! Sarah Byrnes, Goldsmith, LLC is locally owned by Sarah Byrnes.

What types of services/products do you offer?

We are known for our Custom Design work and original, one of a kind, Fine Jewelry. We work in Platinum, Palladium, Gold and Silver and offer a wide variety of Colored Gemstones, Diamonds and Cultured Pearls. If we don’t have what you are looking for, we are happy to find it for you. We provide restoration, restyling, restringing and repair work, all on the premises in our workshop.

Why did you decide to open your business in Simsbury?

I love the quiet beauty of the town of Simsbury and the quaint and quirky Simsburytown Shops buildings we call home.

What is your mission/goal as a Simsbury business owner?

At Sarah Byrnes, Goldsmith, LLC we strive to create long lasting and multi-generational relationships with our clients by offering the highest quality craftsmanship and materials and the best possible service. We understand the value of a family heirloom and work to preserve or enhance a clients special piece. We want to be your old fashion Family Jeweler. We like to be involved in the community through local organizations and school Fundraisers. We offer Scouting Troops the opportunity to learn about jewelry making, and earn their Badges.

How did you get your start?

I started my jewelry career as a young girl folding paperclips into wearable art! After High School in Newington, I began my formal apprenticeship at a jewelry store and enrolled in some jewelry courses. I went out on my own exhibiting my jewelry at New England Art Shows as well as doing repair and custom work for others in the jewelry industry. In 1993 I opened up my retail jewelry store and workshop in the Simsburytown Shops in Simsbury CT.
