At Sustainable Health and Wellness, Dr. Dana Lapointe,
ND, takes the term holistic to a new level.
Whether a patient has a debilitating disease, a chronic issue, a serious weight problem or a myriad of other needs, Lapointe’s overarching philosophy of restorative medicine is the same. She believes “conventional” medicine too often focuses on symptoms.
“We treat the entire person,” she said. “I want to really go for the root cause.”
Each situation and Lapointe doesn't claim natural remedies always cure all but in some situations she said she's seen people get better through diet and lifestyle changes or homeopathic remedies. She's also seen them work wonders in controlling side effects caused by more "conventional treatments."
“I am always amazed at the healing power of nature and what our bodies can do,” Lapointe said. “I see things that shouldn’t happen all the time. That’s what really inspires me.”
Lapointe’s business is no simple doctor’s office. Its expansive spaces in the Tariffville Mill include an infrared sauna, rooms for massage and reiki, and a sun-drenched space for pilates, yoga, acupuncture and much more. The business even sponsors movie nights and art openings.
To further its holistic approach, Lapointe's also worked on ways to bring services to those who may not otherwise be able to afford them. Efforts in that area include community acupuncture and soon she hopes to start a similar program with a community naturopathic clinic. For about the price of typical co-pay people would be able to come in for short visits that could include general check-ups and let people know if they have pressing issues that need further attention.
