McLean Expands and Renovates Assisted Living Neighborhood: Meeting a Rising Need in the Community for Senior Support

OCTOBER 8, 2013 - SIMSBURY, CT – The newly refurbished Robinson assisted living community celebrated a grand opening last month at the McLean Health Center, as an extensive four month renovation project, completed by Newfield Construction, came to a close.

The space was transformed into six new state-of-the-art studio resident rooms complete with full bathrooms, adding much needed capacity to the existing 23 room assisted living neighborhood within the Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) on Great Pond Road. Refurbishments extended throughout the existing spaces in the Robinson assisted living neighborhoods.

“This project is a direct response to the growing demand for high-quality assisted living services in this area,” said McLean president, David Bordonaro at the grand opening on September 25. “We are pleased to be able to expand our current offerings to accommodate the growing number of seniors looking to age in McLean’s close knit community of dedicated staff, innovative programs and superior care.”

Also included in the renovations was robust remodeling of the Koopman community room where many programs and activities are held. The new open floor plan is complemented by a cozy fireplace sitting area, activity space for large group programs, and an updated, fully equipped kitchen for snacks and baking activities.

“We are very happy with the end result,” says Megan Gill, assisted living program director. “Each of the new rooms is unique with distinctive architectural features, full bathrooms, and large windows, plus the technical capabilities of an assisted living environment. This project is a true reflection of McLean’s dedication to providing person-centered, community care for those needing additional support for day-to-day living.”

The renovations meant the relocation of the Outpatient Physical Therapy program to the warm-water Virginia Darling Young Therapeutic pool area on the south end of the campus. “This move makes a lot of sense,” said Bordonaro. “To have all of our outpatient services in one location enables us to better serve our outpatient participants while responding to the demand for additional assisted living space.”

The Robinson assisted living neighborhood is just part of the spectrum of retirement living that McLean provides on its 125 acre campus. Offering independent living villas, cottages and apartments in The Village, Atwater Memory Care Assisted Living, Skilled Nursing, Post-Acute Care, and Rehabilitation, Hospice and Home Care visiting nurse services, McLean offers an exceptional continuum of care that supports all levels independence.
