Statewide disaster hurricane drill set for July 30-31

Best thing you can do for emergency preparedness

I met this morning with about a dozen Simsbury residents and our town staff to get an update on the upcoming statewide disaster hurricane drill set for July 30-31.  Our volunteer group would be one of the first ones called once a disaster was declared by the town.  Our job would be to help with organizing the shelter and to provide valuable information back to the town on the needs of our residents, especially those who are most vulnerable.

"Simsbury will be one of at least 161 towns and tribes participating. The objectives of the drill are to improve Emergency Operations Centers, improve communications at the local, state, and national level, review sheltering and mass care procedures, and exercise a mock response scenario.

The drill will be put on by the Department of Emergency Management & omeland Security. The intention of the drill is to identify gaps and problem areas, so that Simsbury will be at its best in protecting our residents should a real emergency occur." - Town of Simsbury Press Memo.
