A Shelter Wedding

A little thing like a power outage wasn't going to keep these two from getting married.

Kathleen Mary Dal Santo and Douglas Strachan Arnold were married Tuesday. That may not sound that out of the ordinary, but when you factor in that they were married at Simsbury's shelter due to widespread power outages and in front of mostly strangers, then it's a little different.

The pair was supposed to be married at home in Simsbury, but with no power and no ability to take showers they opted for the shelter at Simsbury High School. At the shelter they could wash up, get dressed and enjoy wedding cake made by volunteers. Flowers came from the culinary department at the high school.

Cantor Susan Levine (who performed last night at the shelter) sang at the wedding, which was officiated by State Rep. Linda Schofield in her first wedding as a justice of the peace. It was held in the high school amphitheater.
