Historic Simsbury School's Teacher Was Paid Remarkable Amount

According to the Simsbury Historical Society website, Mary Skinner was the first teacher of a 1790 school house that now sits on the museum property in Simsbury center.

Skinner taught in the small building in an area of Simsbury that was known as Scotland. Scotland was later annexed by the town of Bloomfield.

In 1866, Skinner was paid $48—for the whole year!
