It Helps to Have 'Friends' Like These

Friends of the Simsbury Public Library help throughout the year.

In these tough economic times it helps to have Friends, and the Friends of the are the best kind to have.

At the board of selectmen’s meeting Monday night, the board accepted the donation of $21,910.27 for the library from the Friends.

What is significant about this donation is it did not come in all at once. Throughout 2010, the Friends would purchase and donate equipment and other building enhancements in what turned out to be close to 20 different items.

Projects such as fish tank maintenance, interior painting, buying sun screens and blinds, as well as purchasing furniture were all paid for and accomplished during 2010.

Each year the Friends require a letter of formal acceptance of the charitable donation, hence the item on the selectmen’s agenda Monday night.

In her letter describing the donation, Friends’ treasurer Leslie Bruder stated that the $21,910 was in addition to the “direct library support the FSPL provides each year in library materials, programming and services of approximately $50,000.”

Selectman Moira Wertheimer commented positively about the Friends continually meeting the needs of the library throughout the year.
