Meet the Candidate: Jackie Battos for Zoning Board of Appeals Alternate

Republican Jackie Battos is running for re-election to the Zoning Board of Appeals Alternate in Simsbury.

Education 

I grew up in Simsbury, graduated from Simsbury High and have attended classes at URI and Central CT State University.

Work experience

I have worked as a realtor in Simsbury for 8 years. My real estate experience has helped tremendously with questions and concerns brought by local residents to the Zoning Board of Appeals.

Why are you seeking office?

I am currently on the Zoning Board of Appeals as an alternate and running for re-election. I would like to use the knowledge I've gained in the past year to help the citizens of Simsbury with their concerns. I also feel that it is important for citizens to volunteer in their communities. 

What experience do you bring to the table? 

Serving on the ZBA for the past year has given me incredible insight into the zoning appeal process and the important issues facing Simsbury residents.  As a realtor for the past 8 years, I have been able to apply my in-depth knowledge of the town and real estate to the cases brought to the board.

I have also volunteered on the Simsbury Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary for the past 10 years and have been the President for the past 3 years. I have met many residents in Simsbury and fostered strong bonds with members of the community.

What do you feel is the town's most pressing issue?

Simsbury is a remarkable and historic town and I am lucky to have grown up here, but we need to encourage more small businesses to open here to relieve the tax burden of our citizens and makeSimsbury an even stronger community.

What do you love most about town?

I love that Simsbury is a big town that has such a strong sense of community it feels like a small town. People look out for each other and are constantly trying to help one another. Simsbury is a unique place to live.

What do you like to do for fun?

Simsbury has so many great outdoor activities and opportunities to volunteer. You can find me running on Iron Horse Boulevard, playing a round of golf with friends, volunteering with the Ladies Auxiliary or visiting my mom at the Simsbury Public Library.
