Auditions for cast and dance corps for Simsbury Summer
Theatre’s production of Carousel will be June 1, 2 (cast only on 6/2) and 4 (Dance only on 6/4). Signups for backstage crew are June 1 & 2. SST, a not-for-profit, completely self-funded
organization for high school and college students, is in its 49th
year of producing a Broadway show. Participants do
not have to be Simsbury residents, but must meet age requirements: Fall
2014 high school freshmen through age 23 may audition for cast and/or dance or
signup for crew.
SST has produced a full-scale
Broadway musical every year since 1966. “We’ve been in ‘the business’ for a
long time and provide a comprehensive theatre experience for young adults.”
says Board President Nancy Grandin. “We have a great professional staff and
offer opportunities for actors, singers and dancers and full range of technical
theatre options for backstage crew members.”
SST’s 9-member staff includes
16-year veteran Artistic Director Joe Campolieta, Choreographer Lesley Lambert,
Tech Director Nick Diakovstavrianos and Costumer Michelle Warshaw. “We’re very excited to welcome two new
staff. Our new music director is Hartt
School of Music teacher Jack A. Pott,” says Grandin. “and we are welcoming back SST alum and
former tech director Amanda Mule as assistant director. Both will be great additions to a very strong
team and members will definitely benefit from all our staff’s expertise.”

delighted audiences since the show premiered.
In addition to an excellent
theatre experience, SST also offers optional social activities. “Participants have fun offstage too,” says
Ms. Grandin. “Members can choose to participate in pizza parties, game nights,
laser tag, Theme Thursdays– our youth board is busy planning these now.” SST also has a long history of alumni
involvement in the arts and numbers Grammy winners, Oscar nominees and Broadway
and national tour performers among its alumni.
