CLASSICAL MUSIC IN THE AFTERNOON – HOLIDAY CONCERT

Enjoy an afternoon concert with musicians Michael Wheeler, Viola and Ruriko Kagiyama, piano.

Michael Wheeler, currently the HSO Principal Viola, began his professional career in the New World Symphony (Miami Beach) under the leadership of Michael Tilson Thomas. He has been a Concertmaster in Auguas Calientes, Mexico,  Assistant Principal Viola in the Portland Symphony (Maine), Associate Concertmaster of the Boston Classical Orchestra, and a member of the San Antonio Symphony.  He is a Hartt School Community Division faculty member. 

Ruriko Kagiyama, pianist, performs as the Hartford Symphony keyboard, with the Karas String Quartet, and as a collaborative and solo recitalist throughout New England. She has performed as a soloist in Texas, Mexico and Japan. In 2011 Ruriko organized and produced the concert, ' A Song for Japan,' which raised thousands of dollars for the tsunami victims. Ms. Kagiyama is currently studying jazz piano with Greg Babal at the Hartt School to introduce jazz piano to classical piano students. She is currently on the piano faculty of the  Hartt Community Division.
