Light One Candle To End Hunger

Light One Candle To End Hunger, an interfaith community
gathering on the first evening of Chanukah and on the eve of Thanksgiving
will take place Wednesday, November 27, 2013 7:00pm-8:00pm at The Emanuel
Synagogue,160 Mohegan Drive, West Hartford.

Chanukah and Thanksgiving both celebrate religious
liberty: the Pilgrims came to the New World seeking religious freedom, and
the ancient Jews’ defeated Greek oppressors who had banned the practice of
Judaism. Because the Hebrew calendar follows the sun and the moon, this is
the first time since 1888 that the two holidays have aligned in this way
and it won’t happen again until 2070.

The event opens with candle lighting in honor of
Chanukah and the song "Light One Candle" led by Cantor Sanford Cohn
and the Emanuel Adult Choir. Apple cider and jelly donuts will be served.
