Luminary Night

On December 1st, the Simsbury Junior Woman’s Club (SJWC) will present its fourth annual Luminary Night.  In this non-denominational celebration of the season, Simsbury residents will light up their walks and driveways with luminaries purchased from the club.  100% of the proceeds raised from Luminary Night benefit local charities and organizations.  Luminaries will light up neighborhoods in the early evening, making this important fundraiser also one of the most eye-catching events of the year.  In previous years, some neighborhoods have held hot cocoa parties as residents step outside to mingle with their neighbors and admire the beautiful scenery.  Others have packed their cocoa in thermoses and taken to the road to admire the luminaries all around town.  Four years ago this event was conceived by SJWC in order to help a local family whose son needed a life-saving liver transplant.  Luminary Night was so successful that SJWC decided to make it an annual event, and to use the money raised to help support others right here in Simsbury.  Last year $14,000 was raised and donated by the club to a diverse array of local grant recipients.  The complete list of grant recipients is available at simsburyjuniors.orgTo order luminary kits for the upcoming event on December 1 or to make a donation, please visit simsburyjuniors.org.  Kits cost $15 and consist of the materials to make ten luminaries.  The kits will be delivered to your home during the week prior to Luminary Night.
