McLean Hospice Plans Event in Honor of National Hospice/Palliative Care Month

Deborah Glassey, APHN-BC, MSN, MPH, Director of Hospice for The New McLean in Simsbury, recently announced two November events to be held for members of the community in celebration of National Hospice/Palliative Care Month.

Glassey said that this year’s theme of Hope, Dignity, Love…It must be hospice is an important reminder that hospice and palliative care brings hope to help people live life as fully as possible, offers dignity when there is not a cure and surrounds families with love at one of life’s most challenging times.   On Wednesday, November 13th, McLean Hospice will unveil the newest Hospice Memorial Remembrance Quilt in its collection.  The formal program will begin at 10 a.m. in the McLean Health Center Lobby, with a reception following.  The quilt is made of squares designed or contributed by those who were served by the Hospice team and who lost loved ones in 2012.

Quilter Dorothy Szypulski donated her time to sew the squares together into a Memorial Quilt as a tribute to these loved ones.  Hospice Director Deborah Glassey reminds us that the quilted squares represent how we are all part of the fabric of life and how we can come together to support the bereaved in our communities.

Donations are always welcome to support the Hospice program. Checks in memory of loved ones can be sent to McLean Hospice, 75 Great Pond Road, Simsbury, CT 06070.
