Simsbury Public Library Hosts "Innovators' Fair"

In conjunction with the launch of its new 3D Printing Lab, Simsbury Public Library will be hosting an “Innovators’ Fair” on Saturday, April 26 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. This will be a time for people of all ages to be creative!

The event will begin with a ribbon cutting for the 3D Printer. Throughout the day, there will be demonstrations of some of the amazing things that this technological wonder can create – all you need is imagination! Hands-on learning experiences will be taking place all over the library, including Tech Crafts, a Rainbow Room Station, Book Spine Poetry, and Fiber Arts (needlepoint, knit and crochet). In the Technology Petting Zoo, you’ll find Snap Circuits, Squishy Circuits, Robotic Spirographs, Makey Makey, and more! The Simsbury High School Robotics Team and Tariffville School’s Invention Convention will also be there to demonstrate innovation in action. There will be an Innovation Wall in the hallway where people are invited to join the conversation and share their thoughts and ideas.

All programs will be held at the Simsbury Public Library, 725 Hopmeadow Street and can be found on the Library online calendar at www.simsburylibrary.info or by contacting the Library at 860-658-7663. All programs are free and open to all.

This program is part of Connecticut at Work, a year-long conversation on the past, present and future of work life in Connecticut created by Connecticut Humanities. “We are thrilled that a grant through Connecticut Humanities’ Connecticut at Work initiative will give the people of the Farmington Valley a forum to discuss ways in which we can use technology to promote innovation in the Greater Hartford area and statewide. We want to draw everyone into the discussion:  techies, artists, entrepreneurs and the next generation of workers, tweens and teens – anyone interested in innovation and creativity!” said Simsbury Public Library Director, Lisa Karim.
Connecticut at Work travels across the state through December 2014. The program features the Smithsonian Institution’s The Way We Worked exhibition with stops in seven communities: New Haven, Torrington, Hartford, Waterbury, Coventry, Stamford and Groton. Surrounding communities are adding local focus with community history exhibits, book and film discussions, author talks, performances and more. Connecticut at Work is an initiative of Connecticut Humanities, a non-profit affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. In the Hartford area, Connecticut at Work is a partnership with Hartford Public Library and Greater Hartford Arts Council. The Connecticut tour of The Way We Worked is made possible by Connecticut Humanities and Historic New England. For a calendar of events and more information, visit cthumanties.org/ctatwork.
