Social Media for Parents

Does Facebook leave you frazzled? Are you stumped by Snapchat? Parents often worry about the dark side of social media, including privacy concerns and bullying, but asking teens to shun social media is an exercise in futility. What’s a parent to do?

Your kids might not believe it, but research shows that there are benefits to parents and their teens when they connect on social media. Join us to explore the various social media apps and platforms that your kids are using - how they work, who else is online with them, and how to navigate the privacy settings and get connected.

Carolyn Clement (@singingcarolyn), webmaster and social media manager for Trinity Episcopal Church in Tariffville, co-moderator of the weekly #chsocm Tweetchat, and a mom to teens, will demonstrate some of the popular online social networks being used by teens and pre-teens, and lead a discussion on how parents can connect with their kids online. Bring your smartphone or iPad to the discussion if you’d like some hands-on exploration.

Event will take place in the library's Program Room, free and open to the public.
