Support For Those With Diabetes

The Simsbury Senior Center and Farmington Valley VNA are partnering to form a Support Group for individuals with Diabetes.

More than 25 million adults and children - representing over 8 percent of the United States population - are affected by diabetes. This chronic condition can often be managed with diet modifications and medication, but complications may lead to heart disease, hypertension, kidney disease, blindness, damage to the nervous system, periodontal disease, or stroke.

The Diabetes Support Group will meet at the Simsbury Senior Center, located in ENO Memorial Hall at 754 Hopmeadow Street in Simsbury. The group's first session, facilitated by Farmington Valley VNA Registered Nurse Ruth Campbell, is scheduled for Thursday, November 7th from 9:00-10:00 a.m. An open forum in which participants will be able to ask questions and offer support for each other will follow an informational session providing education and resources on diabetes management. The second gathering on Thursday, December 5th from 9:00-10:00 a.m., will address "how to navigate through the holidays" with guest speaker Mary Margaret Horan, Registered Dietician.

Pre-registration is required for this free program. Please contact Kathy Marschall at the Simsbury Senior Center at 860.658.3273 for more information.
