The
Simsbury Historical Society introduces a NEW
free concert series showcasing Connecticut’s top musical talent, ranging from
chamber music to vocal jazz.
The series, sponsored by Benny’s of Simsbury, runs April 26 through June 14 in the Society's historic buildings and outdoors in the garden. Admission for the events is free to the public; all
donations will benefit local artists and musicians, as well as the Simsbury
Historical Society. For
more information, visit www.simsburyhistory.org
or the Society’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/simsburyhistoricalsociety.
The series kicks off on Saturday,
April 26, 7:00 PM, with a night of exciting classical and contemporary music
performed by The West End String Quartet,
a group that has been entertaining audiences across New England with a varied
repertoire of chamber music. As strong advocates of contemporary music, WESQ “strives
to bring new and uncommon repertoire to
their concerts, pairing them with traditional works.” The concert will be held
in the Historic Meeting House Replica on the grounds of the Simsbury Historical
Society. A reception will follow in the Phelps Tavern Museum. Admission is
free, donations gladly accepted.
The Simsbury
Historical Society is a non-profit educational corporation founded in 1911
through a bequest of Abbie Sexton Barber to begin a “Historical Room” in
Simsbury. The Society’s first and current
permanent home was acquired in 1962 through the gift of the Phelps family
household. Today, the Simsbury Historical Society continues its stewardship of
period and modern buildings, artifact and manuscript collections, and special
events and workshops, which afford the public the opportunity to research and
enjoy Simsbury’s past and present. Learn more at www.simsburyhistory.org.
