When we think of healthy aging, what often comes to mind first is exercise. There are so many other things that also are important for healthy aging. Socialization and companionship are actually more important than exercise as documented in many studies. Other key lifestyle factors are preventative check-ups, physical exercise paired with cognitive fitness and healthy eating to name a but a few.
In honor of Healthy Aging Month, try joining a book club, make sure you are up to date on your medical checkups and get exercising with a friend. You can investigate exercise programs at the Simsbury Senior Center or the McLean Healthy Living Center both of which offer many senior specific and safe programs. Volunteer! If you are alone and no longer drive, you may want to investigate Dial-a-Ride to get you out and having fun again or start to consider moving to one of many senior living communities in the area.
