SHS 1st Boys Take Gold at the New England Championship Regatta

The SHS 1st Boys rowed for gold at the New England Championship Regatta at Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, MA on Oct. 13. Overall, the team brought home one gold, one silver, and one bronze medal. It was a great day of racing for Simsbury Crew, with 10 boats competing – (Boys 1-4, Girls 1-4, and Novice Boys and Girls).      

The 1st Boys won a very tight race with a time of 13.44.33, .43 seconds ahead of second-place BC High and 5.9 seconds ahead of third-place Glastonbury. The 1st Boys boat crew includes: Alex Picken (coxswain), Nicholas Carabillo (stroke), Billy Fahan, Calvin Krikorian, Brendan Murphy, Owen Massing, Zach Korten, Dan Sparks, and Jack Polizzi (bow).

The competition provides races for both eight-seat and four-seat boats. Other schools that competed in the championship included Avon, Farmington, Glastonbury, Shrewsbury, and St. Johns.

Strong rowing propelled the SHS 1st Girls boat into second place in a tight race with a time of 16:12.02, 14.78 seconds behind first-place Farmington and 0.09 seconds ahead of third-place Convent of the Sacred Heart. SHS 1st Girls boat crew members include: Eric Bursiwicz (coxswain), Helen Moore (stroke), Rebecca Grandahl, Allison May, Kaitlyn May, Elizabeth Austin, Stephanie Sickinger, Abigail Fleming, and Carolyn Croke (bow).

The SHS 3rd Boys finished third in their race with a time of 15:12.09, 21.18 seconds behind Glastonbury and 18.43 seconds behind second-place BC High. The 3rd Boys boat crew includes: Danielle Osborne (coxswain), Alexander Marcktell (stroke), Charlie Croke, Sean Harris, Chris Palms, Tucker Salls, Cameron Cantelmo, Christopher Rechen, and William Pendergast (bow).

·         Head of The Fish Regatta, Saratoga Springs, NY, Oct. 27
