SHS 1st Girls Boat Takes Third at the St. John’s/Shrewsbury Invitational

In an early season test, the Simsbury High School boys and girls crews took on the powerful crews from New England’s rowing powers on Saturday, April 20. Simsbury has been rowing for more than 30 years in this regatta on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, Mass.

The SHS 1st Girls boat rowed a strong race to place third in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 5:08.4, 2.6 seconds behind second-place Brookline and 16 seconds behind the leader Exeter. The 1st Girls boat crew includes: Kristen Regenauer (coxswain), Helen Moore (stroke), Rebecca Grandahl, Kristen Oleskewicz, Elizabeth Austin, Stephanie Sickinger, Kaitlin May, Abigail Fleming, and Catherine Murphy (bow). Several traditional New England rowing powers participated in this event including Exeter, Andover, Simsbury, St. John’s, Brookline, Boston Latin, Northfield Mount Hermon, and Shrewsbury. Although the day was sunny, fierce crosswinds made it difficult to align the boats. Due to the tough conditions at the start, many crews rowed a somewhat shorter course. Simsbury brought six crews (Boys 1-3 and Girls 1-3). For a full listing of the race results, check out www.simsburycrew.org.

• NMH Regatta, Mount Hermon, MA, May 4
