SHS Alums Earn Bronze at the World Rowing Championships

As Simsbury Crew prepares for the 2013-14 school year, the team has two more stellar role models: SHS Crew alums Bryan Pape ‘04 and David Morgenstern ’07 earned bronze on August 30 at the World Rowing Championships in Chungju, South Korea.

Both Pape and Morgenstern rowed for Simsbury in high school, although they graduated several years apart. In a surprising turn of events, after the selection of the U.S. Senior National Men’s Lightweight 8 team this summer, they were paired (seated next to each other) for the event. Their boat placed third with a time of 6:10.20, 3.29 seconds behind second place Australia and 7.53 seconds behind first-place Italy.

This is the fourth year in a row that Simsbury has been represented on the U23 or National Team. Other distinguished SHS alums who made the National Team include Sara Hendershot (2012, 2011, and 2010) and Matthew Carey (2010).
